Why Concrete Fails
Concrete, the base of so many foundations of so many homes, is unfortunately not as perfect a building material as we would like it to be. It’s porous, meaning that some level of moisture can (and should) get through its thick grey skin over time, but the difference between “some” moisture and an all-out leak is a big jump.
Some moisture in a basement is expected and can be resolved with a dehumidifier or painting over the concrete block with moisture-preventing barrier paint.
On the other hand, a leak or crack in the concrete can significantly damage your home’s foundation and your personal property and can be a headache to clean up and cure. These cracks can be caused by nature or manufactured, via shifting soil, settling foundations, or water eroding the concrete over time.
Luckily for you, for over 30 years, South Jersey Waterproofing has been providing a service called “concrete crack injections” to help our customers who have water leaking through foundation cracks in a poured concrete foundation wall.
How to Fix Concrete
While some contractors like to try and fix these poured concrete foundation cracks by excavating and patching the outside, we don’t think this is the best tactic. Their practice can be invasive, leaving the crack behind the wall patch. In our opinion, that is not the proper way to repair this issue.
The proper way to repair concrete is to use epoxy and polyurethane injections that seal up the cracks, preventing water intrusion from making its way through the poured concrete foundation wall. These injections are liquid (to start) and harden quickly, meaning they can be injected in various scenarios, like horizontal, vertical, or overhead cracks. Although the root cause of the concrete cracks should and could have an examination by our team, concrete crack injections are a long-lasting and affordable solution to keeping your concrete foundation safe and leak-free for years.
