Properly executed exterior drainage is one of those things that most homeowners don’t think about until they NEED to think about it. Luckily for those homeowners, South Jersey Waterproofing and our expert team are there when the need comes to save your home from damage at the hands of a faulty, poorly installed, or non-existent exterior drainage system.
These types of drains usually fall into one of four categories:
French Drain. While it sounds a oui-bit fancy, it’s essentially a perforated pipe installed in a flat yard to drain away standing water. First, we excavate a trench sloping away from the property and then install said pipe.
Gutter Drainage System. These pipes (gutters and downspouts) help drain roof water from the house walls. While they are plenty of fun to clean leaves out of, they are essential to maintaining the health of your home.
Footing Drain. We install a pipe around the perimeter of the foundation walls on-level with the home’s footing. If water leaks through the footing into the basement, this pipe collects and drains it away from the foundation.
Grading Drainage. We work with contractors to assess the slope surrounding your house and then work to re-grade and re-work it so that it drives water into storm sewers, according to code.
In the fall of 2015, a Camden County, New Jersey, resident contacted South Jersey Waterproofing to help with their exterior drainage issues. During heavy storms, they were experiencing rainwater running down their driveway and subsequently entering their garage- ruining their numerous personal items.
To help rescue their property and belongings, our expert team (NOT sub-contractors) worked for a couple of days to install exterior drains in the front, along the side of the house, and behind the detached garage. So now, whenever it rains, water is caught in a drainage access grate and discharged underground to the rear of their lovely, wooded property.
